Oscar & Scott got married at their local, and it was perfect.
Oscar and Scott got married today. Well, sort of, the actual legal bit happens in two days, but don't tell anyone that, because today felt like the real thing.
As a London wedding photographer, I get asked to shoot all sorts of days, but this one properly stuck with me. We were at The Perry Hill, their local pub, surrounded by the people who love them most, and the joy in that room was something else. There's something about a non legal ceremony, all the meaning, none of the pressure, that just leaves room for the party. No stiff timings, no forced traditions, just two people getting married in the place they actually love, in front of the people who actually matter.
So much laughing, so much crying, everyone properly over the moon that these two had found each other. The ceremony itself was genuinely one of the most beautiful I've shot, there wasn't a dry eye in the place. That's the bit I love capturing most, not the posed stuff, but the real reactions in the room when it actually hits that this is happening.
Straight after, we headed outside for confetti and got the group shots done, then it was back inside for the bit I did not see coming, bingo. Full on bingo with all their guests, prizes and everything, including a £100 bar tab up for grabs. It was such a them thing to do, no traditional first dance formalities, just proper fun that made total sense for the two of them.
Days like this are exactly why I love what I do. I want every couple I work with to feel completely comfortable being exactly who they are on their day, no toning anything down, no assumptions made about how a wedding is "supposed" to look. Two grooms, confetti outside a pub and a full game of bingo, it was brilliant, and it was entirely, unapologetically them.
If you're planning something a little different, two ceremonies, a pub instead of a marquee, whatever actually feels like you, that is exactly my kind of day. Come find me.
